Meta introduces Llama 3, its cutting-edge language model propelling AI to new heights

Llama 3, the latest generation of Meta’s open-source large language model, has been released with two text-based models trained with 8B and 70B parameters. These models offer improved reasoning capabilities and have been integrated into the Meta AI assistant. The company aims to continue driving innovation in AI across various applications, tools, and optimizations.

Initially anticipated for May release, Llama 3 has undergone rigorous filtering processes to ensure data quality and reliability. The models have been trained with a data set seven times larger than its predecessor, using more than 15T tokens collected from publicly available sources. Additionally, more than 5% of the pre-training data set includes information in languages other than English, preparing for upcoming multilingual use cases.

Meta has introduced resources like Llama Guard 2, Code Shield, and CyberSecEval 2 to promote safe interactions with the models. To ensure responsible use of Llama 3, these resources will be used to monitor user interactions and detect potential misuse or abuse of the models.

The latest Llama 3 models have been integrated into the Meta AI assistant across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Users can download Llama 3 models from various platforms including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, IBM WatsonX, Microsoft Azure and more. Meta plans to introduce new capabilities such as longer context windows, additional model sizes and improved performance for Llama 3 in the coming months.

Research work on the model will also be shared by the company in an effort to drive innovation in AI and encourage collaboration among developers.

Overall, Llama 3 represents a major step forward in large language modeling technology and is expected to have a significant impact on a wide range of industries such as healthcare, finance
