Israel may suspend Rafah invasion as Gaza truce talks advance

The Arab Six-Party Group has emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and to establish a truce agreement that will lead to the release of Israeli prisoners and protect civilians according to international humanitarian law. During a meeting chaired by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, officials from Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Qatar urged Israel to recognize the State of Palestine and reject any attempts to displace Palestinians or conduct military operations in Rafah.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz mentioned a potential postponement of the invasion into Rafah if an agreement is reached on releasing Israeli prisoners. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the importance of ending the war in Gaza and working towards a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and humanitarian aid. Progress has been made in aligning views between Egypt and Israel on a truce agreement for Gaza.

The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed his visit to Israel to facilitate ongoing negotiations. Families of Israeli detainees in Gaza called for an end to the war and a prisoner exchange rather than a military operation in Rafah. Despite some reservations, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu prefers a comprehensive agreement for the release of all detainees.

In conclusion, efforts are being made by various regional and international parties involved in negotiations to reach a comprehensive agreement on a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and humanitarian aid in Gaza.
