World Sales Secured for Director’s Fortnight Film ‘The Falling Sky’ by Rediance

Rediance, a leading international sales agent based in China, has acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the critically acclaimed feature documentary film “The Falling Sky.” The film is set to make its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival next month in the Directors Fortnight section.

Directed by Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha, “The Falling Sky” explores the plight of the Amazonian Yanomami people as its central theme. Based on the book by Davi Kopenawa and Bruce Albert, the documentary showcases the indigenous community of Watorikɨ through a unique perspective. It captures a funeral rite called reahu, where the community collectively works together to hold up the sky and prevent it from falling. The film serves as a powerful critique of outsiders’ destruction of Yanomami way of life.

Rocha’s tenth feature film, “The Falling Sky,” is celebrated for its stunning visuals, meticulous sound design, and insightful words from Davi Kopenawa that explore the beauty of Yanomami cosmology and knowledge. Co-director Carneiro da Cunha, an artist and activist who has worked extensively in Brazil’s Amazon region, collaborated with Rocha on this project.

“The Falling Sky” is produced by Aruac Filmes and co-produced by Hutukara Associação Yanomami and Stemal Entertainment with Rai Cinema. In addition to this documentary, Rediance will also handle Chinese-speaking territories for “Grand Tour,” a co-production project directed by Miguel Gomes that premieres in the festival’s main competition section.

Rediance continues to do business with its recent titles from Berlin International Film Festival featuring films such as Nele Wohlatz’s “Sleep With Your Eyes Open” and Qu Youjia’s “She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones.” Last year they handled Anthony Chen’s “The Breaking Ice.”
