Pierre educator recognized for offering authentic learning experiences

T.F. Riggs High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, LaKisha Jordan, has been recognized as the 2024 ProStart State Educator of Excellence by the South Dakota Retailers Association. This award was given in recognition of her dedication to providing real-world experiences to her students both inside and outside the classroom.

Jordan is a passionate culinary arts instructor who believes in cultivating culinary curiosity by sparking a passion for flavor exploration rather than just teaching recipes. She encourages her students to not only learn skills through their coursework but also apply those skills in practical settings. Jordan provides opportunities for her students to participate in catering events and host community cooking classes, allowing them to gain valuable experience in the field.

Her teaching philosophy focuses on engaging students in hands-on experiences that go beyond traditional coursework.
