Challenging Putin: Why Kiev’s War Efforts may not be Enough

Ukraine is facing a challenging situation as Moscow forces continue to advance along the front line and besiege key strongholds like Chasiv Yar in Donetsk. Despite Ukrainian defense intelligence admitting that winning the war seems nearly impossible, President Volodymyr Zelensky remains optimistic and emphasizes the importance of unity in defeating the invaders.

Negotiations with Russia are currently not feasible as Moscow does not recognize Zelensky as an interlocutor. In fact, the Russian Interior Ministry has formally placed the Ukrainian president on a wanted list, further complicating diplomatic efforts. Zelensky believes that Russia’s aggression will eventually lead to their withdrawal from Ukraine, but acknowledges the need for strength and unity among the Ukrainian people and their allies to achieve this goal.

As Ukraine prepares for a Peace Summit in June, Zelensky remains determined to make the event successful despite Russia’s attempts to sabotage it. Ukrainian forces continue to resist Russian aggression, with recent reports of shooting down a Russian Su-25 plane in Donetsk. Despite heavy Russian losses, the conflict shows no signs of slowing down, with Moscow’s military operations expected to escalate in the coming months.

Zelensky’s leadership and determination to defend his country against Russian aggression are evident in his daily messages and actions on the battlefield. With the support of their allies and a united front, Ukraine remains hopeful that they can force Russia to withdraw from their territory and end the conflict.
