Biden criticizes Trump for benefitting from inherited wealth during union speech

During a conference for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a labor group that has endorsed his bid for reelection, President Biden emphasized the differences between his upbringing in Scranton, Pa., and his opponent’s lifestyle in Mar-a-Lago, Fla. He contrasted his own belief that hard work and paying taxes are for everyone with some people’s belief that inheriting wealth is the best way to get rich. Biden also took jabs at Trump’s lifestyle, highlighting how this extravagant lifestyle is different from his hometown.

Biden has been working to rebuild the coalition that brought him to the White House in 2020 by targeting union workers. In 2016, union households shifted from blue to red, contributing to Trump’s victory in states like Michigan. However, Biden was able to win back these crucial states in the 2020 election. The president often touts himself as the most pro-union president in history and has shown his support for unions by joining a picket line with autoworkers last year.

Overall, Biden is working hard to secure the support of union workers and emphasize his commitment to their interests as he campaigns for reelection. His efforts may prove to be a key factor in determining who will be elected president come November.
