Newell’s upsets Talleres to win the Professional Virtual Soccer eLiga Cup

On Sunday, April 28th, the final of the eLPF VISA 2024 tournament took place. This virtual football competition is the official league of FIFA EA Sports FC 24 and has replaced the reigning Córdoba team as the new champions. The final match between Ezequiel Correa of Newell’s and Lautaro Carletti of Workshops was a thrilling affair that resembled major international esports events.

In the first round, Correa emerged victorious over Cristian Giménez of Belgrano with a score of 8-3. Meanwhile, Talleres’ Lautaro Carletti secured victory against Facundo Cowen of Argentinos Juniors with a score of 7-5 in their respective matches. In the third-place playoff match, Giménez and Cowen battled it out with Giménez ultimately winning with a score of 9-7.

The grand final saw Newell’s (Correa) and Talleres (Carletti) face off in an intense game that went on for two games. Despite being evenly matched, Correa emerged as the victor with a score of 8-6 in the aggregate result. His win not only dethroned the reigning champions but also earned him a substantial cash prize of 1,500,000 pesos and direct qualification to represent Argentina in the FC Pro World Championship, which is a global club championship for virtual football games.

Following his victory, Correa expressed his happiness and dedicated his win to his father.
