Rebecca Sinclair and Nicole Vanderbilt appointed as World Book Day trustees – The Bookseller News

Rebecca Sinclair, Penguin Random House’s chief brand officer, and Nicole Vanderbilt, Bookshop.org’s UK managing director, have been appointed to the World Book Day trustee board. Emma Scott, chair of World Book Day, expressed her delight in welcoming Rebecca and Nicole to the board, citing their industry experience and passion for the charity’s mission as valuable assets for developing and implementing the charity’s strategy.

The appointments are aligned with World Book Day’s goal of achieving “greater reach and increased impact” by 2027. Sinclair emphasized the importance of reading for pleasure in a child’s future success and highlighted the decline in reading for pleasure based on research findings. She underscored the urgency of the charity’s work in light of these trends.

Vanderbilt shared her excitement at becoming a trustee for World Book Day, emphasizing the personal significance of the charity’s mission to promote children’s reading for pleasure. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with fellow trustees and the World Book Day team in advancing the organization’s goals.

“As an industry leader, it is our responsibility to support children in their reading journey,” said Sinclair. “I am thrilled to be joining World Book Day as a trustee and look forward to working alongside other industry professionals to achieve greater reach and impact.”

Vanderbilt added: “Bookshop.org is committed to promoting children’s literature and encouraging lifelong learning through books. I am excited about this opportunity to contribute my skills and experience towards this cause.”

The appointments come at a crucial time as research has shown that children who enjoy reading are more likely to succeed academically later on in life. The decline in reading for pleasure has raised concerns among educators, parents, and policymakers about its impact on future generations.

World Book Day aims to address these challenges by increasing awareness of books among children through its annual celebration on March 4th each year. The organization also provides resources such as book recommendations, author visits, and workshops to encourage children’s love of reading.

With Rebecca Sinclair’s expertise in marketing and branding, Nicole Vanderbilt’s knowledge of online retailing, Emma Scott’s leadership skills as chairwoman – together they will play a vital role in achieving greater reach and increased impact by 2027.
