Expansion of Home and Technology Upgrade Program for Seniors in Chattanooga Assisted by Federal Grant

Patsy Owens purchased her home in Orchard Knob ten years ago, but struggled to afford necessary repairs, including an aging roof on her Ivy Street house. When she learned about a program in Orchard Knob designed to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the area, she applied and was approved for a new roof for her 73-year-old home. The roof was completed last year, providing Owens with much-needed assistance.

Recently, Owens expressed her gratitude for the program in a telephone interview, stating that her house had not received a new roof in a long time and that she would not have been able to afford it without this assistance. The new roof has significantly improved her home and alleviated financial stress for Owens.

The Connected Communities Program has provided residents with various resources over the past couple of years, including home energy upgrades, laptop computers, and internet access for telehealth and other online needs. Dozens of individuals in the area have been able to improve their living situations thanks to this program.
