Reportedly the Patriots are granting DT Christian Barmore a substantial raise with a 4-year extension valued at $92 million.

The New England Patriots have reportedly extended the contract of their young defensive tackle, Christian Barmore, just days after a successful 2024 NFL Draft. Barmore has agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $92 million, with $41.8 million guaranteed.

The 24-year-old saw significant growth on the field last season, with more sacks, tackles, tackles for a loss, and QB hits than in previous years. This extension gives Barmore a substantial raise from his previous base salary of $1.82 million in 2024. If he reaches the full $92 million value of the deal, he could earn an average of $23 million a year. Even if he only receives the guaranteed $41.8 million, that still amounts to over $10 million annually.

Extending players like Barmore is crucial for the Patriots as they enter a new era following the departure of Bill Belichick. Under the leadership of Jerod Mayo, the team had a successful 2024 draft, highlighted by QB Drake Maye as the No. 3 pick. The draft class earned an A-minus grade from Yahoo Sports’ Charles McDonald, indicating a promising future for the team.

The extension was seen as a signal of faith in Barmore’s potential by both the team and his agent – Leigh Burton – who negotiated on his behalf.

“We are thrilled to extend Christian’s contract with the New England Patriots,” said Burton in a statement.”Christian has shown great promise on and off the field since joining the team in 2016 and we believe this extension reflects his value to both our client and their organization.”

Barmore expressed his excitement about signing with his hometown team again.

“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to continue my career with my hometown team,” said Barmore.”The Patriots have always been my dream organization and I’m excited to be here for another four years.”
