Local entrepreneur from Reno encourages small businesses during National Small Business Week

The Nevada Small Business Development Center is celebrating National Small Business Week by providing valuable support and resources to entrepreneurs in the state. As a valuable statewide resource, the SBDC serves as a beacon of hope for individuals who are starting, expanding, or enhancing their businesses. Despite the challenges that come with owning a small business, Winnie Dowling, the Executive Director of Nevada’s SBDC, encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to take on this risk and pursue their dreams.

However, starting and owning a small business can be difficult and not everyone is equipped for it. In fact, according to The Lending Tree, Nevada ranks 5th in the country for the highest rate of small business failures, with nearly 30% of businesses closing within the first year of operation. This highlights the importance of having a good understanding of your industry, competitive advantage, financial tracking, and cash flow management to navigate these challenges successfully.
