Normal Operations Continue: Sault Ste. Marie Hospital Addresses Nurses’ Strike

The nurses at MyMichigan Sault have gone on strike outside the medical center, but the administration is assuring the community that they are working diligently to cover for those on strike. Despite the strike, the medical center successfully delivered a baby and handled three urgent operating room cases, proving their ability to continue providing quality care to the community.

The administration believes that the proposal they have put forward to the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is fair and reasonable, recognizing the excellent care provided by nurses in Sault. Throughout negotiations, they have made significant movements towards an agreement with the MNA. They highlight that originally, the MNA asked for top of scale nurses to be paid $51.30 per hour in the first year alone. In contrast, MyMichigan’s offer has steadily increased over time, showing their willingness to compromise.

The administration emphasizes that they value and listen to their nurses and encourage them to vote on the contract proposal. They also reiterate their commitment to providing a safe and supportive working environment for their nurses while continuing to deliver high-quality care to the community. Additionally, they stress that investments in systems like Epic contribute significantly to nurse compensation packages.

In conclusion, despite ongoing negotiations with striking nurses in Sault, MyMichigan is committed to delivering high-quality care and valuing its nursing staff while maintaining a safe working environment for them.
