Duplantis breaks pole vault world record at the first Diamond League meet of the year

In the pole vault event at the Diamond League meet in China, Armand Duplantis broke his own world record by clearing 6.24 meters. The 24-year-old athlete from Sweden, also known as Mondo, had previously set a record of 6.23 meters at the same meet last September and has now surpassed that feat with ease.

Duplantis mentioned before the competition that he never puts limits on himself and is always capable of a record-breaking performance. This was evident as he entered the competition at 5.62 meters and went on to clear 5.82 and 6 meters before attempting the record and successfully clearing it on his first try. Sam Kendricks finished second at 5.82 meters and Huang Bokai finished third at 5.72 meters, marking Duplantis’ eighth time setting a world record in his pole vaulting career.

The event also saw other impressive performances, including Christian Coleman winning the men’s 100 meters in an incredible time of 10.13 seconds, with Fred Kerley finishing second in just behind him at 10.17 seconds. In the women’s events, Gudaf Tsegay set the third-fastest time in history with a time of 3 minutes and 50 seconds in the women’s 1,500-meters race while Torrie Lewis upset world champion Sha’Carri Richardson to win the women’s 200 meters race in a close finish with Lewis winning in just over 22 seconds .

Overall, the Diamond League meet in China showcased some of the world’s top athletes putting on impressive performances throughout all events making it an exciting start to the outdoor season for fans and athletes alike
