Metsä Board commits 60 million euros to upgrading cardboard machine

Metsä Board, a subsidiary of the Metsä Group, has announced a EUR 60 million investment in the renovation of its folding carton machine located in Simpele. The project is part of a larger ten-year modernization program aimed at enhancing production capabilities and sustainability. The renovation is expected to commence immediately and be completed in the second half of 2025.

The goal of this investment is to improve the quality of folding board, increase production efficiency, and enable the replacement of fossil fuels in the production process. As a result, the factory’s production capacity will increase by approximately 10,000 tons, bringing Simpele’s annual folding carton production capacity to around 310,000 tons.

Metsä Board’s decision to invest in this project reflects its commitment to innovation and sustainability. The company recognizes that cardboard production must be optimized for both environmental impact and economic efficiency. This investment marks an important step towards achieving these goals.
