Last week, Meta unveiled a new feature called Imagine, which is an AI image generation tool. The feature utilizes the company’s latest open-source large language model, Llama 3, to produce high-quality images that are sharper.
The goal of Imagine is to encourage users to let their imaginations roam freely, with assistance from the company’s AI model. Users can use Imagine to create images in real time by typing a prompt that describes the image they want to generate. The feature is currently being tested in beta on WhatsApp and the Meta AI website.
Meta’s Imagine feature relies on its latest advancements in natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision technology to enhance image quality and incorporate text into images more effectively. Once an image is generated, users can animate it, transform it into a GIF, or apply new styles. The company also introduced several other updates to its AI assistant, including providing tailored recommendations for dining or interior design inspiration.
Despite these advancements, Meta is still working to catch up with competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. However, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has described Meta’s AI developments as “pretty wild,” with future models anticipated to rival those released by other AI companies earlier this year.
