Marlins Executive Discusses the Tough Choice to Trade Luis Arraez to Padres

On Friday night, the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres made a significant trade that sent Luis Arraez to the west coast in exchange for four minor-league players: Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee, Nathan Martorella, and Woo-suk Go. The decision to trade Arraez was made by Marlins president Peter Bendix two months before the unofficial start of the trade season.

Bendix praised Arraez as a player and human being but stated that the trade was necessary for the long-term success of the organization. He drew on his experience with the Tampa Bay Rays and expressed confidence that with disciplined moves, the Marlins can achieve their desired level of success. However, Bendix did not reveal whether Jazz Chisholm Jr. would finish the season in Miami.

The Marlins had a surprising playoff run last season but have struggled with a 9-25 start to this year. Bendix emphasized the importance of making moves to improve the organization’s future and reach their goals, highlighting the need for disciplined decision-making in their approach.
