Student from Bellmore participates in esteemed science competition

Ava Goldsmith, a senior from Kennedy High School in Bellmore, NY, has been recognized as one of 15 students on Long Island who have earned a spot in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair. This event will take place until May 11 in Los Angeles. Goldsmith clinched her position by winning first place in the 2024 Long Island Science and Engineering Fair in the Cell and Microbiology category.

Each year, millions of high school students from all over the world participate in Regeneron-affiliated science fairs. However, only around 1,600 students qualify to compete for nearly $5 million in awards, scholarships, and internships. Goldsmith’s research project delves into the implications of breast cancer therapy, with a specific focus on a cancer-promoting network called the “epichaperome.” Her three years of experience in advanced science research have helped her to create a groundbreaking project that has earned her recognition on a national level.
