Kajima Corporation Leads the Way in Sustainable Construction with Low-Carbon Dome for Osaka-Kansai Expo

Kajima Corporation recently announced a major reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for the construction of a concrete dome for the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. The company plans to use a new type of low-carbon concrete that reduces emissions by 70% compared to traditional building methods.

The dome, which is set to be built in the West Gate Zone of the expo venue, will serve as an exhibition space on environmental education. The construction of the dome is scheduled to begin in April and be completed in November 2024. The dome will be made of reinforced concrete, standing 5.45 meters tall with an oval shape and a diameter of 23 by 18 meters.

Kajima’s use of low-carbon concrete along with technology that absorbs CO2 during manufacturing is expected to result in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
