BF Dies After Jumping In World Cup Final

On Thursday, April 18, the United States achieved a historic feat in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup match at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The horse responsible for this achievement, Chromatic BF, however, met an unfortunate end later that evening when he collapsed and died in the stabling area.

Chromatic BF was a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by KC Branscomb and Branscomb Farms LLC. He had been attended to immediately by U.S. Equestrian veterinary staff and FEI veterinarians after collapsing in the stables following the competition. Despite their best efforts to resuscitate him, he could not be saved.

Earlier that evening, Chromatic BF had finished third in the second round of the jumping competition with rider Jill Humphrey posting a time of 48.36 seconds in a seven-horse jump-off. This put them on the podium alongside Swedish teams of Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward, and Peder Fredricson and Catch Me Not S.

Unfortunately for Chromatic BF and his connections, they had finished 12th on Wednesday and were in fifth place in the overall standings when tragedy struck. Samples have already been taken from the horse according to FEI veterinary regulations, and a full postmortem will be conducted as per FEI protocols.
