Hamas considers Israel’s offer for a cease-fire in Gaza

A recognized terrorist organization, Hamas, has announced that it is currently engaged in discussions with Israel over a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip. This news comes as Egypt intensifies its efforts to end the months-long conflict and prevent a potential Israeli attack on the southern city of Rafah, as reported by AP.

Earlier negotiations between Egypt and Israel focused on a potential six-week cease-fire and the exchange of hostages, including the release of 40 civilians and sick individuals in return for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. However, details about the Israeli offer have not been provided by senior Hamas official Khalil al-Haya. He mentioned that it was a response to a proposal made by Hamas two weeks ago.

Hamas has also stated that leaders of the three main militant groups operating in the Gaza Strip are also engaged in talks to end the conflict. Despite calls for restraint from various sources, including the US, Israel has been adamant about its plans for a ground assault on Rafah, citing a presence of Hamas militants in the area.

Egypt has warned that an attack on Rafah could have severe humanitarian consequences for Gaza. The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue between the parties involved.
