Ann Arbor SPARK collaborates with city for innovative green business challenge

Ann Arbor is committed to driving a greener and more sustainable future for its local businesses, and the City of Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor SPARK are working together to make this vision a reality. The Ann Arbor Green Business Challenge (A2 GBC) is a new initiative aimed at promoting sustainability within the local business community.

The A2 GBC is not just a certification program, but also a movement that encourages businesses to adopt eco-friendly practices and work towards a more sustainable future. Participating in the challenge allows businesses to showcase their commitment to sustainability and earn recognition and cash rewards for their efforts.

The launch event for the program was held on Tuesday, where speakers including Rodger Bowser from Zingerman’s Delicatessen, Yahang Zhang from RRS, and Heidi Poscher from 4th Purpose Energy shared information with interested businesses. The A2 GBC focuses on seven key categories to promote sustainability: Energy, Circular Economy, Water, Resilience, Supply Chain, Education, and Mobility.

Businesses can earn points towards different certification levels including bronze, silver, gold, and platinum by implementing sustainable practices across these categories. From reducing energy consumption to supporting upcycling initiatives, every effort towards sustainability is recognized.
