Frederik Rassmann and Debora Piana break away to win Giro Sardegna in UCI Gravel World Series

Debora Piana emerged victorious in the women’s category of the Giro Sardegna Gravel race, while Frederik Rassmann claimed victory in the men’s category. The UCI Gravel World Series event took place on the fifth stage of the Giro Sardegna, which was a six-day tour on the Mediterranean Island. The course for this stage started in Orosei at the ITI Marina Resort and was a 13 km journey followed by a local loop of 41 km, including 57% gravel roads.

Initially, both elite men and women were set to complete the local lap three times. However, organizers decided to reduce the number of laps for the women to two due to safety concerns related to strong winds in the forecast. Despite this change, Piana dominated her race and finished first, while Zurlo came in second and Lakata third.

In terms of performance data, FirstCycling showcased that Rassmann finished six seconds ahead of Alban Lakata and over a minute-and-a-half ahead of Matteo Zurlo. Both races provided an exciting and competitive environment for riders to showcase their skills and compete against their rivals on the beautiful Mediterranean Island.
