Legal battle between family members over Müller drugstore chain inheritance reaches court

Erwin Müller, founder and CEO of Müller, a drugstore chain, is currently facing a civil dispute with his three adult adopted children. The hearing between Müller and his wife Anita, and their adopted children, took place in the Ulm district court. The adopted children are demanding their compulsory portion of the inheritance and are therefore suing the Müller couple.

The dispute centers around a contract in which the adopted children allegedly waived their compulsory share. The adoptees claim that this contract is immoral and void, and their lawyer argued this before the hearing. Despite being present at the hearing, the three adoptees declined to comment on the case. The Müller couple is represented by a lawyer who also refrained from commenting on the ongoing proceedings.

Müller started his first salon in 1953 in Bavaria before expanding his business to include cosmetics and drugstore items. In 1969, he was inspired by drugstores he saw in Canada and the USA leading him to open his first pure drugstore in Ulm in 1973. Today, Müller’s drugstore chain employs around 35,000 people and has more than 900 branches across Europe.

Despite the ongoing dispute with his adopted children, Müller’s drugstore chain continues to operate and serve customers across Europe. The company’s history of growth from a small salon to a large chain remains an inspiring success story in the retail industry.
