PortMiami welcomes the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard for Fleet Week 2024. Over 3,000 members of the military are in attendance, bringing four ships to the city’s waters. This marks a special occasion for both the military and local community as it is the first time in a long while that Fleet Week has taken place in Miami.
Dr. Cassie Freund, director of science communication at Frost Science, expressed excitement about having the Navy in Miami during Fleet Week. She emphasized the importance of their role in the community located on the ocean and highlighted their participation in demonstrating different types of science as valuable.
The week of events began at Frost Museum of Science with a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band and an opportunity to meet sailors and Marines. The museum also showcased real K-9 training demonstrations which drew a lot of attention from attendees.
