Exploring the Depths of Science: Heal the Bay’s Aquarium Science Camp for Kids

This summer, children have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of science and learn about the intricate water systems in Santa Monica through the Aquarium Science Camp organized by Heal the Bay.

Heal the Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring the safety, health, and cleanliness of the coastal waters and watersheds in Greater Los Angeles. They offer a variety of programs and camps throughout the year aimed at sparking students’ interest in science and learning.

Taking place from June 24 to July 26, the Aquarium Science Camp is an engaging educational experience that allows kids to explore the ocean, discover the natural world, and cultivate their curiosity in marine science. Each week, campers get to dive into different ocean environments, interact with live animals at the Aquarium, observe the beach, play games, and learn how to become ocean stewards.

Kelly Kelly, Associate Director of Aquarium Education at Heal the Bay, stresses the importance of making learning relevant by providing hands-on experiences such as digging in the sand, discovering marine creatures, and participating in various activities that encourage a love for science and the ocean.

The camp provides a unique learning environment outside of traditional classrooms where children can directly observe, ask questions, provide explanations, and communicate information in an interactive and engaging manner. The camp is held at Heal The Bay’s Aquarium on Santa Monica Pier and is open to children from kindergarten through eighth grade with daily and weekly rates available.
