View: Deloitte’s Latest Report on Technology’s Impact on Supply Chains

Wanda Johnson, a supply chain technology fellow with Deloitte Consulting LLP, recently presented the findings of the firm’s annual industry survey in collaboration with MHI on the adoption of technology in the supply chain. The study, which involved around 1,500 executives, takes a “human-centric, technology-driven” approach to the topic.

Johnson emphasizes the importance of keeping humans involved in the decision-making process, no matter how advanced the technology becomes. The report highlights that while robotics and automation have revolutionized supply chain management over the past decade, artificial intelligence is poised to take it to another level.

Generative AI was identified as one of the key themes in the survey and has enormous potential to enhance human capabilities and facilitate reskilling. However, Johnson warns that there is a risk of inaccuracies if not closely monitored. Planners need to carefully review data generated by AI and not solely rely on its recommendations.

The report also stresses the importance of data governance to ensure accurate results are obtained from clean data. It is crucial for planners to understand how trends are evolving and where the industry is headed to make informed decisions about technology adoption and implementation.
