Global and Local Jane’s Walks in Ellsworth and Beyond

This year, Ellsworth, Maine is joining over 500 cities worldwide in participating in Jane’s Walk. Started in Toronto in 2006 to honor writer and activist Jane Jacobs, the event encourages people to engage with their neighborhoods and develop a sense of pride for where they live and work. In Ellsworth, there are two walks scheduled for Saturday – one focusing on nature and the other centered around historical Ellsworth.

The first walk, which starts at 10:00 a.m., will take place at the River Walk North trail head behind the Ellsworth Public Library. The second walk, which begins at 3:00 p.m., will start at the Old Burial Grounds on State Street. These walks are being organized by Heart of Ellsworth in partnership with GrowSmart Maine and the Ellsworth Historical Society.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to register for the walks on the Heart of Ellsworth website to find more information and get involved in the community event. By bringing people together to explore and learn about their surroundings, a sense of community pride and connection is fostered. Through engaging with neighbors and the local environment, participants can develop a deeper appreciation for the place they call home.
