Half a million tons of sugar contracted for purchase by Egypt

Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, has announced that the government has developed plans to create a strategic reserve of essential commodities. This includes purchasing 500 thousand tons of sugar, with shipments expected to arrive soon. During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, efforts to secure basic commodities and expand the strategic reserve were reviewed.

The ministry is currently experiencing high levels of wheat supply operations, which surpass rates seen in the past three years. The ministry has already accumulated a significant stock of wheat and is working towards securing other important commodities for the strategic reserve. Additionally, the ministry has a reserve of oil in place and is actively seeking out other key commodities to add to its inventory.

Al-Moselhi emphasized the importance of these measures in ensuring a stable supply of essential goods for the people of Egypt. The government is taking proactive steps to address any potential shortages and maintain stability in the market. By increasing the size of the strategic reserve and securing key commodities, the Ministry aims to protect against any disruptions in the supply chain.
