The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired recently held its annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt at the organization’s Academy Playground. This holiday tradition, supported by the South Florida Police Benevolent Association and Miami-Dade Police Department Bomb Squad, was a huge success with 45 students participating in the event. Each Easter egg emitted a beeping sound to help the blind and visually impaired students locate them, emphasizing Miami Lighthouse’s mission of showing that “it’s possible to see without sight.”
At the event, President and CEO Virginia Jacko highlighted the importance of inclusivity for children with vision disabilities, who are often left out of traditional activities like Easter egg hunts. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt allows both visually impaired students and those without vision disabilities to join in the festive tradition using their sense of hearing.
The South Florida Police Benevolent Association and Miami-Dade Police Department Bomb Squad sponsored and assisted with the event to ensure all the beeping eggs were functional for the students at Miami Lighthouse Academy.
