Nominees for Boys and Girls Wrestling at the Detroit High School Sports Awards

The Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers, have announced the nominees for Boys and Girls Wrestler of the Year. This nine-month student-athlete recognition program, which is one of 20 regional shows across the United States, will culminate in a red-carpet show this spring, acknowledging athletes, coaches, and teams from the greater Detroit region that participate in sanctioned Michigan High School Athletic Association sports.

During the live show on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit, nominees will be honored along with the player of the year for each of the 27 other recognized sports. Awards will be presented for on- and off-the-field achievements, including a Courage Award, Coaches of the Year, Teams of the Year, and the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year awards. All nominated athletes who RSVP will receive complementary tickets to the event thanks to sponsors.

Here are the nominees for Boys Wrestler of the Year: Connor Bercume from Novi Detroit Catholic Central High School; Wyatt Hepner from Grosse Pointe South High School; Zak Knapp from Brighton High School; Darius Marines from Novi Detroit Catholic Central High School; Mason Stewart from Novi Detroit Catholic Central High School; Brock Trevino from Clarkston High School.

And here are the nominees for Girls Wrestler of the Year: Margaret Buurma from Fowlerville High School; Nakayla Dawson from Westland John Glenn High School; Belicia Manuel from Romeo High School; Sabrina Nauss from Brighton High School; Angelina Pena from Milan High School; Tyler Swanigan from South Lyon East High School.
