353 Ballerinas Set World Record for Dancing on Tiptoes in One Place at New York’s Plaza Hotel

In the heart of New York City, hundreds of young dancers gathered at the Plaza Hotel to break a world record. These ballerinas, ranging in ages from 9 to 19, were dressed in white tutus and had their hair tightly coiffed as they stood on their toes for a full minute, shifting their weight gracefully from one foot to the other in a step known as bourrée. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky music, they executed this step perfectly and established a new Guinness world record with 353 dancers in unison.

Youth America Grand Prix, based in New York, organized the event as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. This scholarship program has been hosting the world’s largest student ballet competition since 1999 and brings together aspiring young dancers from around the world to showcase their talents and compete for scholarships. Additionally, it serves as a platform for professional dancers who have gone through the program to give back and support the next generation of ballet dancers. The three nights of performances at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts were a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of these young dancers.
