On Sol 1215, the Curiosity rover journeyed 67 meters towards its destination: the Namib Dune sampling site. The desired location for sampling is visible in the center of the Navcam image above. Today’s plan includes another drive to reach the designated sampling spot and prepare for “scuffing” – using a rover wheel to dig a small transect in the sand.
The science activities scheduled for today involve ChemCam and Mastcam observations to analyze the composition and opacity of the atmosphere. Additionally, a Mastcam observation will be conducted to monitor any movements in the sand. After the observations are completed, the rover will drive to a location within 5-6 meters of the intended sampling spot.
Once the drive is completed, post-drive imaging will be taken to prepare for a final adjustment tomorrow. Excitement is building for the upcoming sampling and scuffing activities, with operations scheduled for tomorrow and Friday. It promises to be a busy and productive time for the Curiosity team as they continue their exploration on Mars.
