Opportunity Awaits on Wednesdays: Part of a Plan to Diversify the Economy

On Wednesday, Wilmington University’s New Castle campus will host a conference aimed at increasing local participation in commercial development and investment opportunities. This initiative, called Opportunity LIVES Here, was created by Delaware State Sen. Darius Brown in collaboration with the Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware and the Delaware River and Bay Authority. The goal is to promote business growth and investment opportunities for residents near Wilmington’s three rivers – the Brandywine, Christina, and Delaware rivers.

The Opportunity LIVES Here symposium series began in November and provides a platform for nationally recognized speakers, investors, and developers to discuss ideas that can drive economic, cultural, and social transformation in the region. The upcoming event on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon will focus on how diversity contributes to a stronger economy.

Delaware is on track to become a majority-minority state, according to Sen. Brown. The Opportunity LIVES Here forum is part of a larger plan to develop public policy and provide access to capital for the changing demographics in the state. In partnership with the Delaware Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Riverfront Development Corporation, and the Delaware River & Bay Authority, the symposium will cover topics such as the global trade economy, support for ethnic grocers, and legislation to aid the state’s innovation economy.

Registration for attendance at the Opportunity LIVES Here symposium is required but free of charge. For more information about this event or any questions please visit opportunitylivesherede.com or contact reporter Anitra Johnson at ajohnson@delawareonline
