A group of journalists from college newsrooms across North Carolina recently collaborated to address the mental health issues affecting students on their campuses. Funded by the Solutions Journalism Network, the project aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by college students and share diverse perspectives on how to tackle this pressing issue.

The project involved nine college newsrooms, including Emmy Martin, Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Tar Heel and project lead for The Mental Health Collaborative, Rosegalie Cineus, Editor-in-Chief at The A&T Register at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and Emily Vespa, Managing Editor at Technician at NC State University.

During their discussion with Leoneda Inge, the journalists shared their opinions on how best to approach the mental health crisis facing college campuses. They discussed a range of topics, from funding mental health services to providing more resources for students struggling with mental illness.

Despite differing opinions, all three journalists agreed that addressing mental health issues is crucial for creating a healthy campus environment. They emphasized the importance of creating a culture that prioritizes mental wellness and encourages students to seek help when needed.

Overall, the project was a success in shedding light on the challenges faced by college students and sharing diverse perspectives on how to address this critical issue.
