China offers support to enhance Palestinian Authority and foster unity with other factions

In recent years, the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank, and Hamas, which controls Gaza, have been at odds over the formation of a unity government. Tensions between the two factions have escalated during the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. In response to calls from the United States to revitalize the Palestinian government structure, President Mahmoud Abbas has reshuffled his cabinet.

China has pledged its support for strengthening the Palestinian National Authority and promoting reconciliation among all Palestinian factions, including Hamas. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has stated that recognition of Palestine would correct a historical injustice and should not depend on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations but rather pave the way for a two-state solution.

By offering to facilitate conversations and support reconciliation efforts, China aims to play a constructive role in resolving the longstanding conflict between Israel and Palestine. The Government of China’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region reflects its belief that an independent Palestinian state is essential for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
