UW Science Expeditions showcased interactive science experiences at Discovery Expo

On April 6, families from all over Madison gathered to explore the diverse world of science at the Discovery Expo, hosted by the Morgridge Institute as part of Science Expeditions. This three-day-long open house event took place across the UW-Madison campus and showcased more than 40 interactive and exciting booths, featuring scientists from various departments on campus.

The Morgridge Community Engagement Team worked tirelessly to put together an unforgettable experience for attendees. Families had the chance to participate in hands-on activities such as cow eye dissections and learning about shipwrecks on the Great Lakes. Educational presentations were given from a variety of fields in science, sparking curiosity and inspiring young minds.

The Discovery Expo ended with a thrilling science show featuring UW chemistry professor Bassam Shakhashiri, along with a surprise appearance from Bucky Badger. This lively finale was the perfect way to end a day full of discovery and learning.

Community engagement is at the heart of the Morgridge Institute’s mission, as it aims to inspire scientific curiosity and serve society in partnership with the university. This year’s Science Expeditions helped celebrate 175 years of UW-Madison and its accomplishments in education, innovation, and community impact.
