Drivers stranded in Starnberg (Bavaria) due to storm

In the city of Starnberg, violent storms caused widespread flooding due to heavy rainfall and hailstorms. The storm front moved across southern Bavaria, leading to extreme weather conditions that required an immediate response from emergency services.

The fire department was called upon to respond to over 50 missions in the city as a result of the storm. The B2 highway had to be closed due to the severity of the situation, causing traffic backups for kilometers. Within just five minutes, up to seven liters of water per square meter fell, leading to impassable streets and stranded drivers in the city center.

The district town of Starnberg was particularly affected by the storm, with some streets having to be closed off. Major roads like the B2 and A 952 were temporarily impassable due to flooding and traffic backups. The sewerage system struggled to handle the excess water, leading to flooding in various properties throughout the area. Emergency services also had to respond to incidents in Pöcking and other nearby areas.

In response to the storm, the district fire inspection set up its operations center in the district office and called for assistance from neighboring fire departments. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries but unfortunately, French Week event scheduled in Starnberg had to be cancelled due to severe weather conditions.
