The Capital Region is well represented in the postseason, with three men’s college lacrosse teams competing. In NCAA Division I, the University at Albany secured a spot in the tournament after winning the America East championship. They will face off against Sacred Heart at home on Wednesday. The Great Danes have been on a hot streak, winning four consecutive games and seven of their last nine. Their recent victories over Merrimack and Vermont earned them the home field advantage for their NCAA tournament opener.
In Division III, RPI and Union have also earned berths in the national tournament. RPI, with a record of 16-2, secured an opening-round bye after winning the Liberty League championship against RIT. They will host either St. Mary’s (Md.) or Farmingdale State on Saturday. Only two teams, St Lawrence and Amherst, have managed to defeat RPI this season. Meanwhile, Union, with a record of 12-5, will host Stevenson (Md.) in a second-round tournament game on Saturday afternoon. A win will give Union the opportunity to play another home game as Schenectady is one of the hosts for D-III tournament pods.
