Rishi Sunak remains in the dark as the traditional Conservative world fades away

The film “Good bye, Lenin!” explores the theme of denial in the face of overwhelming change. A devoted communist mother experiences a heart attack and falls into a coma in 1989, only to wake up to a world where communism has crumbled. Her son Alexander shields her from the harsh realities of capitalism by creating fake news bulletins that showcase an alternate world. Similarly, during the recent local elections in Britain, Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak took a victory lap despite losing the majority of mayoral races. This victory was crucial for the Conservatives in securing a win in the next general election, as they currently trail behind Labour by a significant margin in national polls. Despite this loss, the Conservatives are proud of their success in winning over traditionally Labour constituencies known as the “red wall” in the 2019 general election.
