Cumming to host inaugural Mental Health Summit

The city of Cumming is set to host its first Mental Health Summit this month, with the goal of creating a supportive environment for conversations about mental health in the community. This event will be an annual occurrence, as recognized by various national organizations.

At an upcoming city council meeting, Mayor Troy Brumbalow intends to declare May as mental health awareness month. The summit is scheduled for Monday, May 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center on Ronald Reagan Parkway and will be organized by the Forsyth County Mental Health & Wellness Advocates group.

The summit aims to break down barriers and promote understanding among the community members regarding mental health challenges faced by youth in schools and the wellness needs of the community. Speakers at this event include Maureen Bixler, LCSW at Live Life Counseling, former Georgia State Representative Mike Dudgeon, Commissioner Cindy Mills, and a special resident testimony. They will discuss how to address these challenges and create a better support system for those in need.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Faces of Mental Health,” which aims to shed light on different aspects of mental health in the community. By engaging in discussions and coming together as a community, organizers hope that they can positively impact well-being and encourage open conversations about mental health issues.

In conclusion, Cumming’s first Mental Health Summit is set to take place later this month with plans for it to become an annual event. The goal of this summit is to break down barriers, promote understanding and create a supportive environment for conversations about mental health in the community.
