Recognizing Mental Health Concerns as a Public Health Crisis

A recent study by Axios-Ipsos American Health Index revealed that nearly 90% of people believe mental health issues are a major public health concern in today’s society. In a recent episode of the Let’s Get Moving with Maria podcast, host Maria Shilaos interviewed Dr. Frank Anderson, a Psychiatrist, Trauma Specialist, and Author, to discuss the study and ways to address mental health concerns.

Dr. Anderson expressed his belief that the pandemic, as well as other factors like the economy and politics, have contributed to increased stress levels worldwide. He highlighted that people of all ages are affected by these challenges, but the geriatric and adolescent populations may be particularly vulnerable.

The first step to addressing mental health concerns is to recognize and acknowledge them. Dr. Anderson emphasized the importance of not pushing traumatic experiences away but instead facing them in order to move forward. Appreciating your responses to these concerns is also crucial, as they are normal adaptations to stressful situations.

By understanding and accepting your trauma responses, you can open the door to greater vulnerability and healing. For more information and resources on mental health, you can follow Let’s Get Moving with Maria on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
