J.J. Watt’s door opens for possible return to Texans with former teammate DeMeco Ryans

The possibility of J.J. Watt’s return to the NFL has sparked discussions after the Houston Texans’ successful revival caught his attention. Having played 10 out of his 12 NFL seasons in Houston, Watt has a strong bond with the Texans franchise. During his rookie season, he played alongside current head coach DeMeco Ryans and the two have maintained a close relationship ever since.

Watt, who hasn’t played since 2022, expressed his willingness to consider coming out of retirement if Ryans gives him a call. Speaking at a charity event in Houston, Watt reflected on his successful 12-year career and his gratitude for walking away healthy and playing at a high level.

The decision to bring back Watt ultimately lies with Ryans and whether he deems his help necessary to boost the team’s performance. With a talented roster that includes young stars like quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive standout Will Anderson Jr., the Texans are seen as contenders in the AFC South. While Watt acknowledges that this upcoming season may be his last opportunity to return to the field, he remains ready to help the team if needed.

As the season progresses, the Texans will monitor their roster and evaluate whether Watt’s presence would be beneficial. With Watt’s proven track record as a dominant pass rusher and his remaining commitment to staying in shape, his return could provide a significant boost to the team if circumstances align.
