Pivotal Roundtable Discusses Ultrasound Training and Certification for Primary Maternal Health Providers

Inteleos is hosting a roundtable discussion at the Warwick Hotel in Geneva during the WHO World Health Assembly and AI for Good Global Summit on May 29th, 2024. The event, titled “Advancing Maternal and Fetal Health through POCUS Training and Certification,” aims to emphasize the importance of certifying primary maternal health clinicians in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to reduce maternal mortality by 2030.

The discussion will focus on the disparities in maternal and child health services in low-income countries and advocate for expanded ultrasound training and certification. With the increasing availability of affordable ultrasound equipment, there is a need for enhanced training to ensure patient safety. Improving ultrasound proficiency among clinicians will not only enhance coverage but also improve the quality and accessibility of maternal care.

The initiative calls for policy shifts and standardized guidelines to broaden clinicians’ practice scope and recognize the critical roles of midwives, nurses, and clinical officers in obstetric ultrasound screenings. The roundtable will explore opportunities for public-private partnerships, local capacity building, economic innovation, and professional development for healthcare providers. The use of advanced technologies will also be discussed to promote equitable access to healthcare for all.
