KWU Student Selected to Participate in Discussion on High School Sports Coverage

As a senior at Kansas Wesleyan University, Aubreigh Heck has been invited to participate in a breakout session at the Kansas Collegiate Media state convention on April 22 at Wichita State University. The session will focus on the importance of covering local sports, particularly high school sports, and how some of the best and most rewarding sports journalism is carried out at the local level.

During the panel discussion, Heck will share her insights on covering sports as a woman and discuss the challenges she has faced while covering high school sports in Hutchinson and Salina. With a double major in Communications and Public Relations, Heck also holds the position of editor-in-chief at KWU Student Media.

Scott Paske from the Kansas State High School Activities Association and formerly of the Wichita Eagle, Charles Chaney from The El Dorado Times-Gazette, and Joel Muhs from the McPherson Sentinel are also joining Heck in the session. Together, they will provide a comprehensive view of the importance and challenges of covering local sports in journalism.
