Persistent car break-ins in busy Dekalb County community causing frustration among business owners

A series of car break-ins in a Dekalb County community has left business owners and workers feeling frustrated and vulnerable. Over the past two months, there have been 18 break-ins within a one-mile radius around Snapfinger Woods Dr. and Interstate 20. This year alone, there have been 40 incidents, all with the same pattern: thieves use nearby woods and holes in fences as shortcuts and hiding spots to break into car windows, quickly grab items inside, and run off, always concealing their faces with hoodies.

One customer, Quentalyn Stephens, is among those who have experienced the violation of having her car stolen in the same area last year. She expressed her frustration by saying, “Do something better!” Surveillance videos have captured the thieves’ brazen activities despite warnings from daylight and the presence of many people around to catch them. The lack of fear from these criminals is concerning for business owners and workers who are hesitant to speak out publicly due to fear of retaliation.

Instead of staying silent, they are calling for increased police patrols in their community to help deter future break-ins and ensure their safety. With more officers on patrol, they hope that these thieves will finally feel the consequences of their actions and stop their criminal activities once and for all.
