Report Ranks Brazil’s Bid Higher than Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium for 2027 Women’s World Cup

Brazil’s bid for the 2027 Women’s World Cup has been ranked higher than Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium in a new evaluation report released by FIFA. This comes after a technical evaluation that assessed each country’s bid against specific criteria.

The FIFA Congress is set to vote on the two bids on May 17 at its meeting in Bangkok, marking the first time that members of the soccer governing body will have an open vote to determine the tournament’s hosts. Both bids were deemed to meet the minimum hosting requirements, with Brazil receiving an average score of 4.0 out of 5 and the joint European bid receiving a score of 3.7.

Last week, the United States and Mexico withdrew their joint bid for the tournament, with U.S. Soccer stating their focus on hosting in 2031 instead. South Africa also dropped its bid last year, citing logistical challenges and stating their intention to host in 2031 as well.

Brazil has never hosted the Women’s World Cup before but has experience hosting both men’s and women’s tournaments at various levels. Germany hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011, while Australia and New Zealand played host in 2023 marking the first time that two countries have shared hosting duties for this tournament. It remains to be seen which country will be selected as host for the next tournament in 2027 but one thing is certain; it will be an exciting decision as countries vie for this prestigious event.
