World Migratory Bird Day: Geauga Park District to Host ‘Bird Sit’

Nature enthusiasts are invited to join Geauga Park District’s “bird sit” event on World Migratory Bird Day, May 18. The event allows participants to record all the birds they see and hear while sitting in one spot for a set period of time. Participants can join the fun at the observation deck of Troy Wetlands, the newest park in the district, between 6:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Naturalist Linda Gilbert will be there to help tally spring bird life. As of April 30, Troy Wetlands had already surpassed LaDue Reservoir’s number of bird species sighted in Geauga County with 123 species. The unique combination of wetlands and forest at Troy Wetlands provides an ideal habitat for a wide range of birds. Its boardwalks and viewing platform offer excellent vantage points for bird watching.

Interested participants, both school-aged and older, should dress appropriately for the weather and bring along essentials such as a chair, binoculars, camera, and comfortable clothing. No registration is required for this event. Troy Wetlands is located at 18725 Claridon-Troy Road in Troy Township.

Before attending the event, it is recommended that you check the park district’s website for updates regarding inclement weather that may lead to cancellation of the event. Signage will be posted along the route to make navigation easy and convenient for all attendees.

Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to experience the rich birdlife at Troy Wetlands while contributing to an important scientific study!
