Vennam and Wiener Claim Compound Titles at Shanghai 2024 Season Opener

The 27-year-old archer from Austria displayed exceptional accuracy during the 15-arrow match, rarely missing the eight-centimetre 10-ring. He only missed the four-centimetre X-ring (used for breaking qualifying ties and setting records) twice in the first end, and once each in the second and third. Reflecting on his victory, he mentioned that last year was challenging for him, as he didn’t win anything. Winning in Mexico was an amazing experience for him, and he expressed his excitement at being in the country.

Andrea Becerra narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final, as she had a point to lose with one arrow remaining. Unfortunately, her last shot landed in the eight, allowing Vennam to secure the final berth with a wider nine. Jyothi Surekha Vennam will be participating in her second Hyundai Archery World Cup Final after Hermosillo last year where she defeated the top seeded archer from Mexico to secure her slot. Tlaxcala will mark Wiener’s first Hyundai Archery World Cup Final this season which consists of three stages instead of four. Stage winners like Vennam and Wiener have already secured their spots in the final while recurve finals will conclude the competition in Shanghai on Sunday.
