Houston Astros Set to Face the Painful Memory of 2019 World Series Defeat Once More on Friday

The Houston Astros had an unparalleled year in 2019, winning 107 games and earning the best record in baseball. They entered the postseason as the top seed in the American League and faced off against the Tampa Bay Rays in the Division Series. After a thrilling three-game series, the Astros emerged victorious over their opponents with a final score of 3-2.

In the ALCS, they faced a formidable foe in the New York Yankees but ultimately came out on top with a final score of 4-2. This set up an eagerly anticipated World Series matchup with the Washington Nationals, who had won their first World Series title in 2019.

The Nationals are celebrating their one-year anniversary of their World Series victory this weekend, coinciding with their series against the Astros. Special events include night fireworks set to “2019 World Champion Music” on Friday and replica rings given to the first 20,000 fans at Saturday’s game. The Nationals will also play a video of their 2019 World Series win before Saturday’s game and have players from their championship team involved in pre-game activities.

While only three active Nationals players were part of that championship team, seven Astros players were there for the heartbreaking loss in Game 7 of that series. One of those players, Justin Verlander, will make his season debut on Friday against Washington and hopes to lead his team to victory while seeking some revenge for that difficult loss.
