Aldi contributes to the growth of businesses in Allegheny Township

Aldi is set to open a new grocery store in Allegheny Township, with plans to open the store at Hyde Park Plaza in the last quarter of 2024. This news was confirmed by township supervisor Jamie Morabito, who has been actively working to attract new businesses to the township since joining the board in January 2022.

The store’s opening is part of Aldi’s expansion efforts, which aim to add 800 new stores by the end of 2028. Since acquiring the property in September 2022, Hyde Park Plaza has welcomed new businesses such as Ollie’s Bargain Outlet and Dollar Tree, adding to its existing 16 storefronts and 564 parking spaces.

Currently, Giant Eagle is the only supermarket operating in Allegheny Township. Morabito spent considerable time providing Aldi with traffic and demographic data to secure their interest in opening a store in the area. With its relatively small population of 8,000 posing a challenge in discussions with Aldi and other businesses, Morabito had to advocate for Allegheny Township’s potential as a business-friendly location.

With the addition of larger anchors like Aldi, vacancy rates are expected to continue declining in Allegheny Township’s plazas, signaling a promising future for businesses in the area.
